Mountain bikes are good for street riding? I need a bike to work takes about 8 mile.
It's going very well. 8 miles is not so far away, and you're not racing.

Also available as a 26in-wheeled bike (the not-on-display Twenty VI), they say it's the result of huge... The alloy Twenty IX pictured comes with a RockShox Reba RL fork, DT Swiss 485 wheels and a mix of Shimano components, including SLX/XT front/rear derailleurs, Deore brakes and SLX levers. We were told 29er mountain bikes were going to be everywhere at this year's Eurobike tradeshow, but it was only when we saw one on Colnago's booth that we really began believing the hype. If you have a front shock on the mountain bike, see if there’s a way to lock it out or reduce the travel in it. The shock bobbing up and down while riding on the street will sap energy from the drive train and slow you down. Yes, you will have a bit more resistance because of the off road tires but it is nice in case the road isn’t in good shape or you decide to take a dirt road detour. Get smooth street tires — “slicks” — to replace the knobby dirt tires that mountain bikes come with. Road bikes are a bit harder to ride and are a bit more costly but they are faster and more efficient. Comment by OnTheRoadID on November 5, 2010 at 8:59 am.
