Why are modern steel bicycle parts painted rather than chromed?

I always thought that Chrome has been very interesting on a bike, but most of the time when modern bicycles do steel parts for which they are painted instead. Why? Even small details like the cups are painted.

Well, the cost has something to do with it, but it is not any reason.

Unlike you and me, many people consider chromium as cheap and gaudy looking ... the general movement away from chromium is due to the preference of the buying public.

Bike co-op contributing to healthier community

The Columbus Bicycle Co-op, a nonprofit community bike garage that teaches residents practical skills about maintaining or building their own bicycles, has given away twice as many bikes this year than in the past. Participants trade volunteer hours for bike parts or entire bikes. Located in the basement of the United Way building at 1531 13th St. , the co-op has supplied about 50 bicycles to community members through its Earn-a-Bike program. The popularity of biking as a hobby or means of transportation is improving the well-being of riders. WITH all of the organized health and wellness programs cropping up around the county, it&rsquo.

Specialized is a bike manufacturer and they needed some Christmas music, but with a twist: They wanted me to create the music from only bike sounds. At first I didn’t think it could be done, but as I recorded sounds from my road bike and mountain bike it started to take shape. Since Jingle Bells is a little overdone this time of year, I thought Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” would be a great alternative. Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. They didn’t even know if it was possible, so they left the song choice up to me to see what I could come up with....
